We are modernising three Oncology Wards at the hospital in Olsztyn under the design-and-build formula

Grupa KDM is starting a new project for the healthcare system: the modernisation of three wards in Building F of the complex of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Clinical Hospital with the Warmia and Mazury Oncology Centre in Olsztyn. The project will be delivered under the design-and-build formula and will include both the preparation of full-scope design and cost documentation and the execution of construction and installation works, including works related to power supply and medical gases.

The modernisation will cover: the Oncological Surgery Ward, the Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Oncological Cardiology Ward, and the Clinic of Oncology and Immuno-oncology with the Oncology Day Therapy Ward. In addition to reconstruction and refurbishment works in the wards' rooms, the project also provides for the reconstruction of internal power supply lines and the installation of a new medical gas system on the specified floors, connected to the existing risers.

– This is a project of a high degree of complexity, because it concerns infrastructure that must work absolutely reliably. The priorities are patient safety, continuity of the wards' operation and full compliance with technological and sanitary requirements. Our task is to design and execute the solutions in such a way that they do not disrupt the functioning of the hospital and at the same time raise the standard of treatment for years to come – stresses Albert Kępka, Contract Manager at GRUPA KDM. – Every design decision has consequences in clinical practice.

The investment is being delivered under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. This means additional responsibility in terms of formal and documentary compliance and reporting standards. Projects co-financed from public funds must be run transparently and predictably – from documentation, through discipline-specific decisions, to acceptance. We deliver this predictability through our methodology, our team and our experience in projects for the public sector.

Cancer remains one of the greatest health challenges in Poland, and demand for specialist treatment is steadily growing. In Poland, hundreds of thousands of new cancer cases are diagnosed every year. According to data from the Polish Oncology Union, the number of new cases has risen to around 185,000 a year, and the number of deaths from them is approaching 100,000. More than a million Poles are living today with a diagnosed cancer, which translates into a constant need for modern, well-organised therapeutic and diagnostic wards.

Modernisation carried out while maintaining the continuity of the wards' operation makes it possible to raise standards of care gradually without limiting the availability of services. This is particularly important in oncological treatment, where the regularity of therapy, safety and the conditions of stay have a direct impact on patients' comfort and sense of security. The investment is long-term, and its effects will be felt both today and in the coming years, responding to the real needs of the residents of Warmia and Mazury. Completion of all works on the oncology wards is planned for June 2026.
